Nonprofit Association of the Midlands - Siouxland Nonprofit Collaboration

Tuesday, February 16 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Northwest Area Education Agency - Room D

Anne Hindery Camp, Executive Director of Nonprofit Association of the Midlands (NAM), will address the group regarding the values of membership in a collaborative organization whose mission is to increase the capacity and professionalism of nonprofits and to advocate on behalf of nonprofit corporations. I have attended some of their conferences and believe we have an opportunity to strengthen the quality of the good work we are doing in Siouxland by being more collaborative. I want you to hear about this professional organization.

Anne will make her presentation at 11:00. I’ve asked her to talk about:

· NAM – Mission, projects, staff, programs and services
· Nonprofit Executive Institute
· Capacity Building

Then, lunch (provided by SHIP) will be served at noon, so all of us “multi-taskers” can get two things done at once – eat (costly) and continue the discussion about nonprofit collaboration (priceless).

Just one or two people from your organization need attend, but we would like to see most area nonprofits present. Please email Michelle at SHIP (mcheever@nwaea.com) by February 11 with your contact information to register.

Please help spread the word to other agencies in Siouxland about this meeting. Our potential impact is strongest when more of us are at the table in these discussions. I encourage you to contact other agency directors and ask them to RSVP by February 11.

June 19 - Getting ARRA Stimulus Funding

8:30 a.m. to noon at Western Iowa Tech Community College

Siouxland Nonprofit Management Alliance welcomes Brian Mathers, Director of Research Development at the University of South Dakota, Friday, June 19, to discuss how your organization can take advantage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). He will provide an overview of the funding legislation, show where to find information related to ARRA grant opportunities, review in detail selected opportunities, inform about special reporting requirements, review how to submit proposals online to federal agencies, and give tips related to ARRA proposals, including budgeting guidelines, allowable costs, using a logic model to structure a proposed project, and basic grant-writing suggestions.

“I will work through real-life examples and use the participants’ input to mock up a sample project idea, establish a rough budget, quantify project goals, plan for evaluation, etc,” said Mathers. “It’s a lot to cover in three hours, but I think it’s best to give adult learners basic information, tools, concepts and an opportunity to work through examples with some guidance, and then set them loose.”

The workshop will meet 8:30 to noon on Friday, June 19, in room L213 at Western Iowa Tech Community College (4647 Stone Ave) in Sioux City, Iowa.

Download the registration form or call 712.276.2157 to register. Registration and payment of $20 are due by Wednesday, June 17. Registration is limited to the first 75 received and paid.
